Sustainability

At Theraline we love and live family.

Of course, this also means that we want to preserve and protect our environment for our children. To this end, we pursue a variety of sustainability projects and more are being added all the time.

These are our current sustainability projects:

Environmentally friendly energy production

Sustainable energy is the hobbyhorse of our company owner Oliver Saul, who was already intensively involved with this topic during his mechanical engineering studies.

For 12 years we have been operating a combined heat and power plant (decentralised energy supply, ecologically advantageous), which supplies the production and the entire company with environmentally friendly energy. In addition, we have installed solar cells on the roof of our company headquarters in Westerwald, which cover the entire electricity demand of our production. Our sewing shop in India is also completely supplied with energy by solar cells.

Climate neutral

The CO2 emissions for the production and distribution of our best-selling products such as "The Original Theraline Pregnancy and Nursing Pillow" and all our sleeping pillows such as the "my7 Side Sleeper Pillow", "The Sleeping Pillow" and "The Kid's Pillow" are completely offset.

Free from harmful substances / filling

The absence of harmful substances in all filling and covering materials used and 100% product safety are always our top priority. It is well known that we are the pioneers in the field of pollutant-free microbeads. We were the first breastfeeding pillow supplier to start the elaborate treatment of our pillows against styrene exhalations as early as 1993 and have been constantly developing our know-how in this area ever since.

The Toxproof of the TÜV becomes OEKO TEX STANDARD 100 of the Hohenstein Institute

The Theraline pregnancy and breastfeeding pillows with pearl filling have therefore carried the Toxproof® label of the TÜV-Rheinland since 1998. Since the end of July, the TÜV Rheinland test seal has been replaced by the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 seal of the Hohenstein Institute. (for more information on the standard, see at fabrics/zips below).

The well-known seal gives you the assurance that you are buying a guaranteed healthy product in our baby and bed range. In addition to the pollutant-free microbeads, we also offer a filling with natural spelt husk.

OEKO- TEX STANDARD 100

Since July 2021, our products in the baby and bed range have been OEKOTEX STANDARD 100 certified. All our textile products in the baby and bed range meet the highest level of this standard (category 1 baby and toddlers). The strict tests for harmful substances and the extensive catalogue of measures of STANDARD 100 from OEKO-TEX® include:

  • Important legal regulations such as banned azo dyes, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, lead (US-CPSIA), etc.
  • Numerous chemicals of health concern, even if they are not yet regulated by law.
  • Numerous substance classes that are also environmentally relevant
  • Limit values of Annexes XVII and XIV of the REACH Regulation
  • as well as relevant substances of the ECHA SVHC Candidate List

Conversion to bamboo fabrics

In 2020, we started to gradually switch our plain jersey pillowcases for all our products to viscose made from bamboo fibres with organic cotton. The largest part is already finished, the others will follow little by little. Of course, no finished fabrics will be discarded here either.

Bamboo has great advantages over other basic textile fibres. First of all, there are over 1,500 different types of bamboo. This diversity makes it more adaptable to different climates than most other woods. Moreover, it can grow on more than 70 per cent of the earth's land surface. Bamboo is extremely robust and, due to its immense growth rate, one of the fastest renewing resources on earth. Bamboo is also abundant in many rural areas where economic development is limited and can therefore provide social benefits. This is because rural areas thus have the opportunity to preserve their culture and lifestyle, and at the same time we can preserve theirs.

Moreover, we are convinced that this is the perfect feel-good fibre, which is not only wonderfully smooth, soft and particularly colour-stable, but also exceptionally temperature-balancing - cooling in summer and warming in winter.

Organic range expanded

If you still don't want to do without plain, pure cotton covers, you will now find a wider range of colours in our organic cotton range.

Saving packaging waste and plastic

Following the motto "less is more", we put all our packaging to the test and have already reduced a lot of packaging to a minimum as a result. Wherever possible, we replace costly cardboard boxes with banderoles or loop packaging. This applies, for example, to "the baby pillow" and our latest products "the children's pillow" and "the pillow". The bamboo plush moon gets "only" a loop packaging made of cardboard from the beginning. Of course, no packaging that has already been produced will be disposed of, it will be used up completely. This means that the changeover may only gradually become visible in the trade.

Green Dot / Dual System

The amount of CO2 avoided in 2021 through our contributions to the Dual System corresponds to the amount that 10,394 m2 of forest filter out of the air in one year.
